Getting Around
The Woodlands has two full-scale Post Offices, eight Fire Stations, The Woodlands Emergency Training Center, and law enforcement is provided by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Harris County Constable – Precinct 4.
Transportation throughout The Woodlands can be challenging at high traffic hours, but roads were initially designed to avoid as much of this as possible, and the infrastructure that has developed around The Woodlands in recent years has made it much easier to get around within the township or commute into Houston and the surrounding areas.
In 1987 the Hardy Toll Road was completed, which starts just beyond The Woodlands and goes to downtown Houston, offering a much simpler commute than Interstate 45, which seems to be in a perpetual state of construction. The last segments of the 180 mile circumferential Highway 99 (the Grand Parkway) traversing 7 counties in the Greater Houston Area, opened in 2022. Or for a truly relaxing commute into town, there are three Park and Ride locations in The Woodlands for commuters to downtown and the Medical Center.
Road improvements inside The Woodlands are constantly being undertaken, easing traffic as population increases. Three major North/South roads – Kuykendahl, Gosling, and FM2978 – ease congestion and reduce driving time for residents living in the Western portion of The Woodlands. Traveling to Spring and beyond is made easier by the Grand Parkway. Within The Woodlands Town Center, Trolleys are provided at no cost to residents and kayaks and Swan Boats will transport you up and down the waterway at a minimal cost, both offering a great way to go between Town Center locations without having to face traffic or the need to park your vehicle.
