Entertainment

Along with all of the other amenities in The Woodlands, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, an open-air performing arts amphitheater named after George Mitchell’s wife, was finished in 1990 and has attracted such diverse entertainers as Frank Sinatra, Clint Black, One Republic, Slipknot and Marilyn Manson. It also became the summer venue of The Houston Symphony Orchestra. Another facility unique to The Pavillion is a 21,000 sqft permanent multipurpose facility featuring ice skating during the holidays in the main room with lighting, state of the art sound system, and tables for parties and concessions.

Cynthia Woods Mitchell was a lover of the arts. She served on the Pavilion Board for many years while also promoting other areas of the fine arts. Local artists were recognized and scholarships were given to many of the area’s talents. The Woodlands Arts Council continues to promote the arts and The Woodlands is proud to exhibit more public art than any other community of its size in the nation.

One of the most popular events in The Woodlands is the annual Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival during which the waterway transforms into an outdoor gallery showing the work of over 200 exhibitors from across the country. The Art Benches are another favorite – a walking display of individual works of art that can be enjoyed for their beauty and also for the functionality.

Another very popular form of entertainment in The Woodlands is, of course, golf. The Woodlands is home to some of the country’s favorite golf courses, designed by some of the top names in golf including Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player. There are currently seven distinct courses throughout The Woodlands, hosted by three separate country clubs including The Woodlands Country Club, Canongate, and Carlton Woods.

Despite its size,The Woodlands hosts a variety of events, festivals and celebrations throughout the year, which helps to create the feeling of a “small town” environment. Marathons, holiday celebrations, July 4th parade and fireworks, and Halloween trickor- treating are just a sample of the Calendar of Events on offer each year in The Woodlands. Staying healthy in The Woodlands is easy if you take advantage of the more than 150 parks and trails (for a full map click here) or one of the many public or private fitness facilities. Just be sure to refuel afterwards at one of the hundreds of restaurants located in The Woodlands.
